Our logo was designed by Ken Budd, a founding member, shortly after the society was formed in 1980. It depicts three constellations which are dotted around the northern hemisphere sky – Orion, Aquila and Sagitta – their initials spelling our society’s acronym “OAS”. The original logo was a flat blue with white lines and white stars. After a few years, Greg Smye-Rumsby, who is now our President, decided to give the logo a more solid appearance with the possibility of making enamel badges for members. One star in each constellation has been given a slightly reddish appearance to mirror its relatively cooler surface temperature.
