Code Cracking Time at Bletchley Park
A group of aspiring OAS codebreakers visited Bletchley Park on Saturday 28th January 2023 and were spied entering the establishment around mid-morning after an early start and travelling incognito by minibus with blacked out windows. Time was of the essence to see as much as possible and we were reminded of the film ‘The Imitation Game’ by our tour guide who let us into a secret – they call it ‘The Irritation Game’ due to a number of inaccuracies with what really happened.
We learnt about the work of Alan Turing and others to crack the Enigma Code which ultimately shortened WW2 by about two years and saved 14 million lives.
Our intrepid codebreakers had an intense and gripping day out and returned home safely under cover of dark with the knowledge that their day to day communications via mobile phones will forever be encrypted’
